Citi Field: A Good Seat - Right Next to the Runway

Growing up in North Carolina, I became an ardent fan of the Atlanta Braves during my preteen years.  I remained loyal to them throughout their cellar-dwelling seasons, long before their remarkable run of fourteen straight division titles and 1995 World Series championship.  I'm still a fan today, despite the team's return to mediocrity and my job working on both the Yankees and Mets television broadcasts.  The stars were in alignment for me one recent Monday evening when I had the night off and the Braves were in town to play the Mets. It was my first time at Citi Field to watch the game as a fan.  And yes, I was rooting for the Braves.

A plane taking off from New York's LaGuardia airport flies over nearby Citi Field.  (The plane is that tiny dot in the cloud on the left side of the picture.)

There's a scoreboard extravaganza in Citi Field's centerfield.  Lots of sponsors.

Atlanta's dishy right fielder Jeff Francoeur's stats appear on the aforementioned scoreboard during his at-bat.  He was 1 for 4 on the night with a single and a sacrifice fly.

The view from our seats.  Mets pitcher Johan Santana deals a really fast pitch to a Braves batter.  (I can't tell who it is.)  They weren't bad seats.  Just a little far away.  And cold and windy.  Santana wasn't his usual brilliant self, but he pitched well enough to win.  But he didn't.  He threw 6.1 innings, gave up 7 hits, 2 runs (neither earned because of errors by David Wright and Jose Reyes), a walk and 6 strikeouts as the Braves won 8-3.  It was Santana's second loss of the season.

Keith Hernandez - former Mets first baseman and current SNY broadcaster - appears in an ad for Just For Men.

Cat Pic of the Day - Barney

This is Barney, the most handsome cat ever!  He's a stray who hangs out at my mother-in-law's place in Midlothian, Virginia.  He is a sweet and gentle creature, and he has a strong body and a loud purr.  My husband is down there now for a visit, and he sent me this picture after Barney's morning feeding.

Happy Birthday, Kathy!

Our cat Kathy turns eighteen today!  She's an old lady, and she's as sweet as ever.  Here she is, enjoying a drink from her little cat water fountain.
